For referring providers

A clear next step
for visual concerns.

Information for optometrists, physicians, rehabilitation professionals, and other providers considering a vision therapy assessment for a child or adult.

Concerns we assess

Our assessment considers visual function in the context of the patient’s symptoms and goals. Common reasons to discuss an assessment include:

  • Concerns about focusing, eye teaming, or eye movements.
  • Visual discomfort during reading, near work, or screen use.
  • Amblyopia or strabismus, to explore appropriate care options.
  • Persistent visual concerns following concussion or brain injury.
  • Questions about visual skills involved in sports performance.

An assessment helps determine whether therapy is appropriate. A referral does not imply that a therapy program will be recommended.

What the assessment involves

We review the patient’s history and concerns, assess relevant visual skills, and discuss the findings and options with the patient or family.

Recommendations are individualized and may include vision therapy or consideration of other care. Where appropriate, visual rehabilitation is considered alongside the patient’s broader care.

When discussing a referral, please let us know about other providers involved and any information you would like addressed.
